Overview

The Bijli Mahadev Temple is one of the most sacred and spectacularly sited hilltop temples above Kullu in Himachal Pradesh. Lying at an altitude of about 2,460 meters, it commands breathtaking views of the Parvati Valley, Beas River, and the surrounding Himalayan ranges. The temple has a mystical phenomenon whereby lightning strikes the Shiva lingam every few years and breaks it; then the priests restore it with butter and sattoo, following an ancient ritual.

The journey towards Bijli Mahadev encompasses dense pine forests, rustic villages, apple orchards, and a short but beautiful hike to the hilltop. Bijli Mahadev attracts a large number of devotees, photographers, trekkers, and nature lovers owing to its serenity, panoramic scenery, and spiritual energy.
